SILK CARE GUIDE
SILK CARE GUIDE
Designed in LA and NYC and crafted from GOTS-certified organic silk with non-toxic dyes, your pieces are sustainable and kind on your skin and hair. To keep them feeling luxuriously soft, here is our guide to mindful maintenance.
Temperature:
Use cold water only.
Detergent:
Choose a mild, plant-based detergent specifically formulated for silk or delicates.
The Process:
Submerge the garment and softly massage the fabric for about a minute. Let it soak for 4 minutes to allow the organic fibers to release any oils.
Drying:
Rinse thoroughly in cold water. To dry, lay flat on a clean towel or hang in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight.
Prep:
Turn garments inside out and place them in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
Settings:
Set to a cold, delicate, or "hand wash" cycle with like colors.
Drying:
While air-drying is best, you may tumble dry on a no-heat or "air fluff" setting for no more than 10 minutes to shake out wrinkles, then hang to finish.
Note: Silk is a delicate fabric. If you choose to machine wash, please do so with caution. Clementine is not responsible for damage resulting from machine settings, cycles, or detergents that are too harsh for organic silk fibers.
ABOUT THE FABRICS:
Our Silver Ion and Atelier Medica collections are infused with beauty serums and cellular actives such as Silver Ions, Hyluronic Acid, Collagen Peptides and Squalane. This breakthrough infusion process adds functional benefits to the silk which exceed its natural advantages.
SELF CLEANING:
Thanks to the bacteria-resistant and self-cleaning properties of Atelier Medica and Silver Ion pieces, they require significantly less frequent washing, helping to preserve its active benefits for longer.
LONGEVITY:
Both our Silver Ion and Atelier Medica pieces are designed to maintain these active benefits for 2-3 years with typical use, assuming 1-2 washes per month.
EFFECTIVENES: During this time, infused actives and serums remain at peak effectiveness. Beyond this 2-3 year period, lab testing shows a gradual decrease with the effectiveness still remaining at approximately 60-70%.
Steam over iron:
Use a steamer on low heat to whisk away wrinkles. If you must iron, use the lowest "silk" setting and always iron on the reverse side.
Wash Less:
Silk is naturally antimicrobial and doesn’t require constant washing. In fact our Silver Ion and Atelier Medica range actively fight bacteria and need to be washed even less. Unless it's stained, try "airing out" your garment between wears rather than washing every time. This prevents fiber fatigue.
Dry Skin Only:
To preserve the silk’s integrity, do not wear your silk apparel or bonnets over wet hair or freshly applied oils/lotions, as this can cause localized staining or "rippling."
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place and for best results, use your Clementine keepsake box and dust bag to protect the fibers from dust and light.
The "Air Refresh" Technique:
Silk is naturally breathable and doesn’t hold onto odors like synthetic fabrics. Instead of washing after every wear, hang your garment in a well-ventilated room (away from sunlight) for 24 hours. This preserves the silk fibers and the non-toxic dyes significantly longer.
The Cool-Down Rule: After steaming your silk, wait at least 5–10 minutes before putting it on. Steaming temporarily softens the fibers; letting the garment "set" and cool ensures it holds its shape and remains resistant to wrinkling while you wear it.
Manage Your Environment:
If you live in a particularly humid or dry climate, store your silk in a temperature-controlled space. Extreme dryness can make organic silk fibers brittle over time, while excess moisture can dull its natural luster.
The Silk-on-Silk Storage:
When traveling or storing long-term, wrap your items in acid-free tissue paper or place them back in your Clementine keepsake box. Avoid plastic bins or bags, as silk is a natural fiber that needs to "breathe" to prevent yellowing or brittleness.
